breaking cold turkey

Like everyone else when my laptop died on me I experienced the classic symptoms of Laptop Withdrawal Affective Disorder (LWAD) - which was mostly being grumpy. But as I got over this transitional period I realized that I'll been using the internet less for the same amount of productivity when it comes to school and work, leaving me with more time for stuff which I've neglected for quite some time like writing and drawing.

It's interesting to know that I've been spending a more-than-necessary amount of time in front of a computer screen for such a long period of time. It brought me back to what Ethan Hawke's character said in Before Sunrise:

You know what drives me crazy? It's all these people talking about how great technology is, and how it saves all this time. But, what good is saved time, if nobody uses it? If it just turns into more busy work. You never hear somebody say, "With the time I've saved by using my word processor, I'm gonna go to a Zen monastery and hang out". I mean, you never hear that.

A new laptop is definitely still a must, but only in time to come.
