free will

I was chatting with my mum about the authenticity of the Western zodiac, whether people born under certain astrological star signs do possess certain characteristic traits defined by that particular sign. (My mum, like most Taiwanese do believe in this celestial theology.)

It got me thinking - if the Western zodiac is real, then we are 'pre-programmed' to bear certain characteristics at the very moment that we're born. It would mean that childhood experiences and upbringing mean nothing in shaping our personality, which mean that we do not really have a say in what we would become. Then wouldn't it be a real shame that we do not have actual 'free will' in our existence on this plane? Or is it a matter of thinking that we have free will when our future decisions were already pre-determined by a higher omnipotent and omniscient being? I've taken philosophy in religion in school, been reading up on various religions and theologies, and I still have no clue.
