I'm currently working at this warehouse a few bus stops from my place - packing and unpacking perfumes for importing and exporting. I disguised myself as an idling youngster who just came out of national service in order to get this job.
Working with people who are at the lower end of society is an interesting experience. Though they may be slighty more boorish and unrefined, they exude a kind of simplicity and sincerity that it's hard to find among those who are in the higher end of society.
Also my colleagues are a bunch of interesting people. My supervisor looks like a chipmunk, an Ah Chong who looks totally like Kang Kang, a William who is half Chinese and half Indian and speaks excellent Hokkien, a Weilun who keeps telling me to relax even though he is the one getting panicky.
Worked thirteen hours today - pay is good but it's really what they call it, "blood sweat money".
Update: I got to know another collegue who looks like Nat Chan and one of the security guards looks like Lance Henriksen. It's like a warehouse full of celebrities.
